Aug 21, 10:45 a.m.

I awoke this morning, about 7:00 a.m. after a nervous night’s sleep. I kept having this recurring dream of a bear trying to get into my tent while I tried to cry out but couldn’t produce a sound, just a silent scream echoing inside my skull.

Last night’s high tide was one of the highest for the month of august (according to my tide book) – it occurred at 2:08 a.m. I went out to take a piss about 2:15 and the water was about 10 feet from my tent (3 or 4 vertical feet). I was happy I picked the highest spot I could find.

I made a great-tasting breakfast of pancakes, made with freshly picked blueberries topped with maple syrup and instant coffee. Not bad! My new camp stove seems to work well. I’m about ready to load my kayak and get underway.
